“Shchedryk” in the Global Information Space: Japanese Edition on the Legendary Composition Presented to K-PNU

On 29 April 2026, an important event took place at the Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University, bringing together Ukrainian cultural heritage and the international information space.

The opening was marked by a performance of Mykola Leontovych’s “Shchedryk” by the folk choral ensemble “Melos,” with Associate Professor Liubov Martyniuk serving as artistic director and conductor.

Acting Rector of Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University, Professor Nataliia Bakhmat, emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the national cultural heritage, stressing that such initiatives allow Ukrainian culture to gain new resonance in the international context.

Head of the Department of Musical Art, Associate Professor Alona Borshuliak, highlighted the department’s long-term research and promotion of Mykola Leontovych’s legacy, including the work of the Research Centre for the Study of the Pedagogical and Creative Heritage of Mykola Leontovych and the Mykola Leontovych Museum.

Representatives of the public organization “Kamianets-Podilskyi Association of the Taras Shevchenko ‘Prosvita’ Society,” Slavko Poliatynchuk and Anatolii Paladiichuk, who are implementing the project “Kamianets Notes and Wings of ‘Shchedryk’,” shared historical facts and key stages of cooperation between “Prosvita” and the university in popularising Leontovych’s legendary melody, vividly presenting an entire cultural era to the audience.

At the end of the meeting, they solemnly presented the Ohhienko University with copies of seven Japanese newspapers featuring publications about the world-famous “Shchedryk” by Mykola Leontovych.

It is worth noting that the article was prepared by Japanese journalist Yuko Nemoto from the leading news agency Kyodo News. During her stay in Ukraine, she visited Kamianets-Podilskyi, including the university, and developed a deep interest in Ukrainian history and culture. This became the foundation for her publication about the composition that has long become a symbol of Ukrainian musical heritage in the world.

“Shchedryk” unites Kamianets-Podilskyi residents, Ukrainians, and the world!
