“eTwinning goes beyond learning”: International EU Teacher Training Conference held in Budapest

From November 28 to 30, Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, hosted the International Conference “Onsite European Conference for Initial Teacher Education: Fostering Citizenship Education through eTwinning for Future Teachers.” The event was organized by the Central Office of the EU’s eTwinning program, based in Brussels.

The conference brought together over 80 participants, primarily from EU countries, who collaborated to achieve the following objectives:

  • To explore the role of eTwinning in promoting citizenship education and European values among future teachers.
  • To investigate innovative pedagogical approaches to integrating eTwinning into teacher education programs to enhance teacher competencies.
  • To discuss the challenges and opportunities of incorporating eTwinning projects into university courses and teacher training programs.
  • To identify best practices in eTwinning projects that effectively promote European values among aspiring teachers and university educators.
  • To foster peer learning, collaboration, and networking to support eTwinning project implementation within teacher education institutions.

 

The conference offered a dynamic program featuring various formats, including an official opening ceremony, keynote presentations, the European Prize award ceremony, panel discussions, and cultural activities, such as a treasure hunt in Pest.

  • On November 29, participants could choose from several workshops, including:
  • Global citizenship education across cultures.
  • Tell a story – embrace inclusion and EU values.
  • Interculturality in action: Empowering future teachers with eTwinning.
  • An intercultural approach to inclusion thanks to eTwinning.
  • Embedding EU values in initial teacher education projects through digital storytelling.
  • Bridging divides: Promoting depolarization in education through mediation and eTwinning.
  • eTwinning in teacher education: Good practices for preparing teachers in vocational education and training.

Ukraine was represented at the conference by Tetiana Storchova, Head of the Office for International Cooperation, PhD in Education, and Associate Professor of the Department of English Language, with the support of the Ukrainian National eTwinning Support Office.

European-level events like this serve as a vital tool for advancing Kamianets-Podіlskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University’s efforts in internationalizing Ukrainian education. The experience gained, professional partnerships established, and shared ideas form a foundation for progress, innovation, and new achievements.
