
On April 3, 2026, an open guest lecture entitled “Strength Training for Powerlifters: Theory and Practice” was held. The event was organized by the Department of Sports and Sport Games of the Faculty of Physical Education at Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University, in cooperation with Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University and Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Culture.
The speakers of the event were Dietmar Wolf, Vice-President of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) and senior coach of the German national powerlifting team, and Vadym Voronetskyi, PhD in Pedagogy, Honored Coach of Ukraine in Powerlifting, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine, and senior coach of the Ukrainian national powerlifting team.
The lecture also brought together representatives of several Ukrainian higher education institutions, including Ivan Boberskyj Lviv State University of Physical Culture, Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Uzhhorod National University, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic,” Poltava State Medical University, Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian-Pedagogical Academy, and the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy.
The discussion focused on modern approaches to strength training in powerlifting, the specifics of planning the training process across different stages of athlete preparation, and principles of developing programs aimed at maximal strength development and injury prevention. The speakers shared their experience in preparing elite athletes, emphasizing the importance of individualized training loads, recovery strategies, and monitoring athletes’ functional condition.
Higher education students also actively participated in the discussion by asking questions, which fostered a lively debate and a deeper understanding of the topics presented.
