Summer is coming to an end in Antarctica, which means the time is approaching for the rotation of polar researchers at the Vernadsky Research Base.

The 30th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition (UAE), which has worked at the station for nearly a year, will be replaced by the 31st UAE team.

For the first time, the expedition will be headed by a woman – meteorologist Anzhelika Hanchuk.

The new expedition includes 14 participants: 9 scientists (4 meteorologists, 3 biologists, and 2 geophysicists) and 5 members of the life-support team – a system administrator, diesel engineer, mechanical engineer, doctor, and cook.

Among the expedition members is Vladyslav Khreshcheniuk, a graduate of the Faculty of Physical Education at Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University. He also obtained a qualification as a biology teacher at Ohiienko University.

Like previous expeditions, the 31st UAE will conduct geophysical, meteorological, and biological research in Antarctica, as well as ensure the continuous operation of the Vernadsky Research Base.
