Participation in the Roundtable Discussion “Current Issues in the Preservation and Promotion of Ukraine’s Historical and Cultural Heritage During the War”

On May 31, 2025, a roundtable discussion titled “Current Issues in the Preservation and Promotion of Ukraine’s Historical and Cultural Heritage During the War” was held at the National Historical and Architectural Reserve “Kamianets”.

Opening remarks were delivered by: – Serhii Kopylov, Rector of Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University, Professor; – Oleksii Dniprov, Rector of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Doctor of Law, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine; – Vasyl Fentsur, Director General of the National Historical and Architectural Reserve “Kamianets”.

Academic staff of Ohiienko University also took part in the roundtable.

At the beginning of the event, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University (represented by Rector Serhii Kopylov) and Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (represented by Rector Oleksii Dniprov).

The cooperation will focus on the following key areas:

  • Organizing and holding joint educational, cultural, and sports events;
  • Exchanging educational, methodological, and scientific-technical information related to teaching, leisure methodology, and the implementation of innovative technologies in the education system;
  • Conducting joint scientific research, conferences, seminars, and other academic events, including through the creation of temporary research groups on agreed topics;
  • Participation of student groups in joint cultural, educational, and sports activities;
  • Providing opportunities for students to undertake internships and practical training at partner universities;
  • Exchanging information on upcoming academic, educational, scientific, and cultural events;
  • Publishing academic, educational, and methodological materials based on the results of joint work;
  • Organizing mutual internships, trainings, and professional development for academic and teaching staff.

During the session, scholars discussed a range of pressing issues. Mykola Tomenko, Head of the Center for the Protection and Restoration of Historical and Cultural Heritage at KNUCA and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, addressed the priorities of state policy regarding the protection and promotion of Ukraine’s historical and cultural heritage during wartime. Valentyna Lukashchuk, Head of the Department of Information Activities, Culture, Nationalities, and Religions of the Khmelnytskyi Regional State Administration, highlighted key aspects of implementing state policy in the registration and inventory of cultural heritage sites. Andrii Zadorozhniuk, PhD in History and Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian History at Ohiienko University, spoke about Jesuit monuments of Kamianets-Podilskyi, focusing on previously unknown heritage sites in the city. Liliia Svintsitska, Head of the Department of Scientific and Cultural-Educational Activities at the National Reserve “Kamianets,” shared insights into the inventory of cultural heritage sites in the Khmelnytskyi region and reflected on the experience gained from past research. Architectural and archaeological studies in the village of Medzhybizh were presented by Oleh Pohorilets, Director of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve “Mezhybizh.” Yelyzaveta Buinovska, Director of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve “Khotyn Fortress,” discussed archaeological research conducted at the Khotyn Fortress site. Finally, Valentyn Pahor, Researcher at the Department of Restoration and Rehabilitation of Architectural Monuments, PhD in History, National Reserve “Kamianets,” explored the revalorization of fortification sites within the reserve. Other speakers also contributed to the discussion, enriching the session with diverse perspectives.

Participants of the roundtable emphasized the importance of uniting the efforts of scholars, educators, and state institutions to preserve Ukraine’s cultural heritage during wartime.
