Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility in Slovakia

From March 31 to April 4, 2025, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of English, Iryna Melnyk, participated in the EU Erasmus+ Programme in the format of teaching mobility at the Catholic University in Ružomberok, Slovakia. The visit marked a significant stage in professional development, encouraged intercultural exchange, and offered an excellent opportunity to share experiences with European colleagues and broaden perspectives in the field of education.

Within the framework of the training programme, Iryna Melnyk conducted classes for students of the Faculty of Arts and Letters, with a focus on interactive teaching methods and the development of language competencies. Particular attention was given to the use of fixed expressions, idioms, and phrasal verbs in real-life communicative situations, as well as to fostering students’ awareness of stylistic and contextual features of modern English.

The academic programme also included familiarisation with the university structure, academic environment, and organisation of student life. A series of working meetings took place with colleagues from the Catholic University, during which participants exchanged pedagogical experience, discussed current challenges in higher education, and explored prospects for future cooperation in the context of international educational projects. A lasting impression was made by the atmosphere of openness, academic freedom, and genuine hospitality present at the Catholic University. The high level of professionalism among faculty members, student engagement, and the supportive setting for academic interaction were especially noteworthy.

The cultural component of the programme held particular value. The visit to Ružomberok and its surroundings provided insight into Slovak culture, customs, and regional historical heritage. Together with colleagues from the Catholic University, Iryna Melnyk visited Vlkolínec — a unique open-air museum village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As one of the best-preserved examples of traditional folk architecture in Slovakia, Vlkolínec, with its scenic mountain landscapes, offered the feeling of stepping back in time.

The stay in Slovakia also included a visit to Štrbské Pleso — a gem of the High Tatras, known for its breathtaking views and fresh mountain air. This cultural aspect of the visit served as a harmonious complement to the professional programme and contributed to a deeper appreciation of Slovak culture and nature.

Sincere gratitude is extended to the Catholic University in Ružomberok for the warm welcome, openness to international cooperation, and valuable academic experience.

Together, we foster international collaboration in the pursuit of victory!
