On March 21, 2025, a roundtable discussion titled “The Stone Pre-Christian Sculpture of Ukraine” took place at the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Historical Museum-Reserve, bringing together archaeologists, historians, and museum professionals. Archaeologist, Candidate of Historical Sciences, and Associate Professor Vitalii Hutsal presented research on the idol from the village of Pyzhivka. The event also saw active participation from students of the History Faculty of K-PNU.
The participants discussed key aspects of the study, preservation, and popularization of stone pre-Christian sculpture, including the challenges of chronological determination and cultural attribution of stone stelae and anthropomorphic sculptures. They also addressed the discrepancies in approaches to dating artifacts from the Bronze Age, Scythian, and early Slavic periods, as well as the need for a comprehensive analysis of the context of these finds.
The attendees emphasized the challenges related to the preservation and exhibition of pagan sculptures in museums. They also discussed approaches to presenting these objects in exhibitions, particularly the issues of contextualization and interpretation for visitors.
Such events once again confirm the high quality of training for future researchers in the archaeological school founded by Professor I. Vynokur.
