On February 21, a solemn ceremony was held to unveil a memorial plaque honoring Borys Lipman—composer, conductor, educator, and Honorary Citizen of Kamianets-Podilskyi. The event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth, recognizing his significant contribution to the cultural development of Kamianets-Podilskyi.
The ceremony gathered representatives of the administration of Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University (K-PNU), academic and teaching staff, city authorities, cultural figures, colleagues, students, and residents of the city. Those present shared memories of Lipman’s wisdom, caring mentorship, and genuine humanity, which always shone through in his professional activities.
Borys Lipman was the initiator of the establishment of the Faculty of Music Education. Attendees reflected on his creative journey, tireless work in the field of music, and impact on the development of music education. In keeping with tradition, the memorial plaque was unveiled by Lipman’s children—Mykhailo Borysovych and Polina Borysivna. The ceremony also included the laying of flowers at the plaque, which is installed on the facade of the Arts Building of Ohiienko University.
To mark the 100th anniversary of Borys Lipman’s birth, a book has been published containing articles and recollections about the artist, his students, and colleagues, as well as musical works dedicated to him. For the first time, previously unpublished vocal and choral compositions by Lipman have been released, along with his choral arrangements and adaptations that have been preserved by admirers of his talent.
A creative portrait of Borys Lipman is available on the website of the K-PNU library.
As part of the event, a roundtable discussion was held, where attendees shared memories of the honoree, his pedagogical and artistic legacy. A particularly touching moment was the musical performances by students and faculty, who presented works by Borys Lipman in tribute to his contributions to the development of musical art.
This event demonstrated deep respect for an outstanding artist whose creative legacy has left a lasting mark on the cultural life of Kamianets-Podilskyi. The memorial plaque (created by Honored Master of Folk Art of Ukraine Volodymyr Lashko and artist, designer, and craftswoman Nataliia Lashko) will stand as a symbol of gratitude and inspiration for future generations.
