“Learning and Growing Together”: The European Union’s Support for Ukrainian Education and Youth During the War

In September 2024, the EU Delegation to Ukraine launched the nationwide communication campaign #TogetherLearningGrowing, which is being implemented by the EU Delegation to Ukraine and will run until the end of February 2025. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the European Union’s steadfast support for education and youth since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

On February 15, 2025, Lviv hosted an event under the slogan “Discover the Opportunities of the European Union for Yourself!” organized by the EU Delegation to Ukraine in partnership with the Lviv Youth Capital of Europe 2025 initiative and the Lviv Bureau for European Integration.

The event served as a platform for two interactive spaces: the Discussion Space and the EU Opportunities Space, both designed for Ukrainian youth.

The EU Opportunities Space introduced various EU projects and programs available to young Ukrainians, including: Erasmus+, eTwinning, the European Youth Ambassadors Initiative, EU4Youth, EU Study Days, the European Quiz and Euroclub Network, the EU Information Center at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine Program, the Lviv Bureau for European Integration, and the Lviv – European Youth Capital 2025 Initiative.

At the invitation of the National Support Office for the EU eTwinning Program in Ukraine, Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University was represented by Tetiana Storchova, Head of the Office for International Cooperation, PhD in Pedagogy, and Associate Professor in the English Language Department, along with Luiza Dorofei and Anastasiia Nevenhlovska, students majoring in Secondary Education (English Language and Literature) at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and participants in the eTwinning program.

The team from Ohiienko University had the opportunity not only to share their experience with the EU eTwinning Program (Project-Based Learning with eTwinning & Erasmus+ for Interculturality) but also to present their university.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová. She stated:

“Russia’s aggression has irrevocably changed the lives of millions of Ukrainian children and youth. As the future of Ukraine, they must not lose access to educational opportunities. That is why we launched this campaign in support of young Ukrainians, and I was honored to be present at the closing event in Lviv, the European Youth Capital of 2025. As Ukraine bravely fights against the Russian occupier, the EU remains committed to supporting education and youth—not only as an investment in Ukraine’s future but also as a testament to the hope and resilience that will shape our shared European future.”

The event’s audience included high school students, university students, young professionals, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and young veterans.

Ohiienko University expresses its gratitude to the National Support Office of the EU eTwinning Program in Ukraine for the invitation and for its initiatives that promote the integration of Ukrainian universities into the European Education Area and the broader European community of educators.

Working together for victory!
